Golgulsa Temple is located high in the mountains of southeastern South Korea, about twenty kilometres from Gyeongju, the capital of the ancient Silla dynasty. The Golgulsa Temple area is home to the oldest historical Buddhist ruins and the only cave temple in Korea. The name Golgulsa literally means 'Temple of the Stone Buddha'. The seated Buddha carved into the rock is the main Buddha of Golgulsa Temple. Golgulsa Temple is the oldest cave temple in Korea, modeled after the cave temples of India.
