A rocket set off for a historic Moon mission from India's Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota today (July 14) at 09:05 GMT.

The aim of Chandrayaan-3, the Indian Space Research Organisation's operation, is to study a little-explored south pole on the natural satellite. If successful, the launch would make it the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon. This is India's third attempt.

Chandrayaan-3 is expected to land on the natural satellite on August 23 after a 40-day journey.
