Port Workers Strike Continues in Delta, BC, Canada
This fooatge was filmed and produced 19 July 2023.
The unionized workers here clean up picket line after the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) ruled that the ILWU Canada cease and desist from participating in any strike action because the union did not provide a 72 hour strike notice. Canadian Labour Minister, Seamus O'Regan called the strike which started again Tuesday "illegal" in a tweet.
The union removed picket lines and tents from the Deltaport here and did serve another 72 hour strike notice Wednesday morning. The mediator was directed by Ottawa to table an offer which was seen as a tentative agreement and at which time the union ordered members back to work. Subsequently the offer was rejected and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada resumed strike action.
Deltaport Remains Quiet Waiting on a Vote By Longshore and Warehouse Union Members. Here the ports remain silent, the truck lanes are empty and workers are finishing the removal of tents and picket lines in order to comply.
