"The forthcoming Chengdu Universiade also offers a great opportunity for the participants to interact in cultural exchanges, with various activities arranged at the Games. A launching ceremony on Wednesday officially kick-started such activities as world university athletes continue to arrive for the Universiade slated on July 28."

Named "Blossom of Youth", the activities include cultural exhibitions, a photo contest and a celebration party.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): WU HONGLIANG, Head of Beijing Fine Art Academy
"Sports and art have never been separated from each other. Chengdu is actually a very youthful city. I think with the Universiade, a youthful vibe and the integration of cultural elements, everyone can expect and will have a wonderful and impressive stay here."

The Athletes' Village serves as one of the major cultural venues for young athletes, featuring exciting events that showcase intangible cultural heritage and encourage exchanges through art.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ISABEL CARRILLO, Colombian student from Sichuan University
"It's a good opportunity. It's a good chance to share Chinese culture. You know, probably not only for other Chinese but also for us foreigners that are here, trying to know more about China and people.
I'm in love with Chengdu. Food is one of the things which is really delicious--spicy, but delicious. The people here are so nice. They are so polite. I'm literally in love with the city. Sport is one of the things that can bring people together. Have fun to, have a good time, share experiences, and share cultures, languages."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): MOHAMED JIHAD, Egyptian student from Communication University of China
"I've been (in China) for 4 years, I know a lot of stuff about Chinese history and culture.
I think (the Chengdu Universiade) is actually making the dreams come true because there're a lot of athletes and (from) other countries. And they didn't have the chance to achieve their dreams and to make people know about their achievements. I think actually sport is important for everyone. It's not about age, age is just a number. I can feel the Chinese government make a lot of efforts to make this, like sport more popular for the people here in China. I can see that people riding bikes every day and the older people at 5:00 a.m. or 4:00 a.m. making Tai Chi and just kind of stretches."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): EHAB ALMAHMOODI, Yemeni student from Sichuan University
"I love the event and the event is so great. Chengdu is a great city. Come on Chengdu."
