Spanish actor's son faces death penalty 'over gruesome dismemberment of gay lover' on Thai island
A Spanish actor's son is facing the death penalty for allegedly murdering then dismembering his gay lover on an island in Thailand.
Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, the son of actor Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre and actress Silvia Bronchalo, allegedly killed wealthy Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, 44, before cutting him into pieces on Koh Phangan island on August 2 in an argument over 'sex and money'.
The discovery of Edwin's mutilated pelvis at a rubbish dump sparked a murder investigation on August 3.
The Spaniard was later arrested and reportedly confessed to the crime, and is now being charged with premeditated murder, which carries the capital punishment in Thailand.
Police General Surachate Hakparn, deputy national police chief, said in an August 15 press conference that the case was being closed, with officials concluding that Daniel was the murderer. He is now awaiting sentencing.
The police chief said: 'We have consulted with the prosecutor on some of the evidence and it is consistent enough to charge him with premeditated murder, which carries the death penalty.'
He said authorities have found CCTV evidence of Daniel buying a knife, garbage bag, cleaning solution, and plastic gloves, adding his hotel bathroom had traces of blood, hair, and human flesh.
Police are still looking for Edwin's remaining body parts, including his right arm, left leg, and torso.
