Sailors walk under Kent's Kingsferry Bridge, UK

Sailors have to walk under a bridge as a part of an annual race held in Kent, UK run every year since 1959.

IOS (Isle Of Sheppey) Round the Island Race is open to sailing dinghies, catamarans & sailboards - but the rules require competitors to turn their craft on their sides and walk them underneath the Kingsferry Bridge half way through the race - so as not to inconvenience road traffic.

Today (September 3) just over 30 craft entered into the event organised by IOS Sailing Club.

Footage shows competitors negotiating the bridge. This year there was an added obstacle of a yacht that had sunk close to the shoreline - which made things even more difficult.

The event rules allow competitors to be helped by volunteers pass under the Kingsferry road & rail bridge built in 1960.
