In Kent's version of Round the Island Race held today (September 1), competitors unusually have to capsize their craft and walk them under the Kingsferry Bridge road and rail bridge.

Around 50 craft took part in IOS Round the Island Race, a clockwise circumnavigation of the Isle Of Sheppey in Kent open to sailing dinghies, catamarans and sailboards.

The annual event held since 1959 starting from Sheerness is organised by Isle Of Sheppey Sailing Club, who require all competitors to walk under the road bridge at the narrowest part of the course to avoid disrupting traffic.

The course is 30-40 miles depending on wind and tide and billed as the UK's longest event of its type open to all three craft.

Footage shows participants going underneath the bridge, followed by footage of the four staggered starts plus a few of the finishing boats.
