"I'm currently at a culture center here in Debrecen, the second largest city of Hungary. Today, there's a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration taking place here. Now let's go and take a look."
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ISTVAN PUSKAS, Vice mayor of Debrecen
"I have to confess, this event is over my expectations. I'm really happy to see so many citizens around me, and I'm really happy that so many Debrecen citizens are interested and curious about the Chinese culture.
I think the Chinese culture is here in Debrecen for many decades, because of a lot of elements like Chinese gastronomy, Chinese sports and Chinese music."
Jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, the China Cultural Center in Budapest, the Hungarian Tourism Office in Budapest, the Confucius Institute at the University of Debrecen and a local public welfare company, the event at Debrecen's Kolcsey Centre attracted a diverse crowd of local residents.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): GRETA SZASZI, Student
"I think it's really interesting how Chinese people take more time to make a dish or a cookie. I'm really interested in Chinese culture and the traditions of the country."
Beyond mooncake making -- a central tradition in Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, the event also featured a Suzhou City Photo Exhibition, a fashion show of ancient Chinese costumes, folk musical instrument performances, rabbit lamp making, and Chinese tea tasting.
