STORYLINE:

The latest investigation into the 2022 cyberattack on China's Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) has unequivocally pinpointed personnel from the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) as the hand behind it.

In 2022, the NPU fell victim to a cyberattack involving the utilization of 41 specialized cyber weapons to launch cyber theft operations over 1,000 times against the university and steal core technical data.

In fact, Washington has long been leveraging its cyber capabilities for intelligence collection.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): TUNC AKKOC, Head of Harici Media, Türkiye
"The complete control of the global internet system is one of the most crucial foundations of the United States' global leadership strategy. Even today, the United States generally maintains control over the worldwide data flow systems."

Apart from cyberattacks, the country's indiscriminate global surveillance is also well-documented, targeting rivals, allies, and targeted heads of state, top politicians, and high-ranking officials in Germany, Sweden, Norway, and France.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): SHAKEEL AHMAD RAMAY, CEO, Islamabad-based Asian Institute of Eco-civilization Research & Development
"The U.S. itself is running the biggest surveillance systems."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Arabic): MAGDY AMER, Former ambassador of Egypt to China
"The U.S. spies on all countries. It is a leading country in spying programs."

Over the years, U.S. cyberespionage activities have repeatedly been exposed and sparked widespread international concern. However, in its pursuit of maintaining its hegemony, the United States continues such rampant acts with disregard for criticisms.

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): TUGHRAL YAMIN, Senior research fellow at Institute of Policy Studies, Islamabad
"The Americans have always been carrying out espionage.
The Americans have been dabbling in surveillance of friends and foes and enemies, everybody. And this has been happening for a very, very long time.
It does show U.S. hegemony. The U.S. is a big hegemony.
And mighty powerful nations get away with whatever they're doing."
