The Nobel Prize in Medicine is awarded to two scientists for their work on mRNA vaccines against covid-19 in Stockholm, Sweden
This footage was filmed and produced 2 October 2023.
Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman were awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on mRNA vaccines against Covid-19, as announced this Monday by the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
Kariko and Weissman published their results in a 2005 paper that received little attention at the time, according to the Nobel Prize committee, but which later laid the foundation for critically important advances that served humanity during the Covid pandemic.
The committee praised the scientists' "pioneering findings," which "fundamentally changed our understanding of how mRNA interacts with our immune system."
