The amount of coffee you should drink per day, according to the WHO in Panama City, Panama
This footage was filmed and produced 28 May 2023.
Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks among the adult population, especially in the mornings as it helps wake up and activate the body. However, excessive intake could be harmful to health, increasing the risk of some diseases.
For this reason, the World Health Organization (WHO) has explained the amount of caffeine that can be consumed daily without posing a risk to health and what is the recommendation for pregnant women.
Daily amount of coffee
Specifically, an adult could drink up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, that is, they could drink between 3 and 4 cups of coffee every 24 hours.
And although coffee has a multitude of health benefits such as being rich in antioxidants, helping sporadic headaches or reducing the risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's or some types of cancer, if this food is consumed in excess it can cause other types of diseases. Among them would be the increased risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis or anxiety.
Likewise, as caffeine is a stimulant product, it can also affect sleep, directly harming rest if consumed excessively and, especially, depending on the time of day in which it is ingested. Normally it is more advisable to drink caffeine in the mornings than in the afternoons and evenings.
