STORYLINE:

Egypt denounced in the strongest terms the terrorist attack that targeted a military academy in Syria's central Homs Province, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday.

Offering condolences to the Syrian government and people, Egypt reiterated its firm stand rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism and terrorizing citizens, the statement said. Egypt urged the international community to intensify efforts to uproot terrorism and dry up its financial sources.

Explosive-laden drones on Thursday attacked the Syrian military academy in Syria's central province of Homs after a graduation ceremony for Syrian officers.

According to the Syrian Health Ministry on Friday, the attack has resulted in at least 89 deaths and 277 injuries among civilians and military personnel.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a statement following the attack on Thursday, calling on the UN and the UN Security Council to denounce the assault.
