A former Thai ambassador to Denmark was found murdered in his home allegedly by one of the builders who was doing renovations.

Retired diplomat H.E. Vichit Chitvimarn, 63, had moved into the upmarket estate called Baan View Mai village (seen in the video) on September 9 and had been hiring Burmese workers to help renovate the place in Bangkok, Thailand.

However, the construction workers reported a foul stench coming from the three-storey house on October 8, with Vichit failing to answer the door despite the lights inside being on.

The contractors called the Sutthisan Police Station officers, who entered the home and found the retired official dead in the second-floor toilet.

Police said Vichit had three stab wounds on his chest and was buried under a pile of cardboard boxes that he had used to move his belongings.

Officers said valuable items such as a mobile phone, a tablet, necklaces, rings, and watches were missing from the house. Forensics investigators also detected blood on two knives in Vichit's kitchen.

The former envoy was allegedly last seen on CCTV entering the property with a Burmese man who was among those working on the renovations.

Police Major General Noppasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, told local media on October 9 that an arrest warrant has been issued for a Burmese worker on suspicion of murder.

He said: 'Based on the investigation, Vichit had moved into the house on September 9, but he could not be contacted since September 27.

'Regarding the suspect, it was revealed that he had resigned from his previous job to start working for Vichit on September 19. He has since become the prime suspect in the case, primarily due to surveillance camera footage.'

The unnamed suspect was said to have posted a message on Facebook saying 'Bye bye Thailand', but cops believe he is still hiding in the country.

Police Major General Noppasin said police were also investigating a recent suspicious withdrawal of hundreds of thousands of baht at a nearby mall ATM that may be linked to the murder.

The deceased Vichit Chitvimarn had previously served as a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official before retiring on September 30, 2020.

Police said his residence has been cordoned off while investigations were ongoing.
