Stand Up To Racism activists staged a protest against the Home Office's plan to return asylum seekers to the Bibby Stockholm barge as a judge hears a case by a Dorset resident, Carralyn Parkes, against the government's plan.

Parkes, who lives in Portland, is bringing legal action against the department over the use of the barge docked in Portland Port.

Ms Parkes, who is also the Mayor of Portland but intends to bring the challenge in a personal capacity, has argued the government requires planning permission.

According to reports, the asylum seekers received letters from the Home Office stating they would be returned to the barge on October 19.
