Demolition of iconic Hotel for controversial new development of 36 luxury apartments, Narrowcliff, Newquay Cornwall UK
Another demolition takes place on the site of the Marina hotel located in a prominent cliff top location overlooking Tolcarne beach, Newquay. The Narrowcliff was once home to side by side Hotels in the popular resort. Local opposition to new developments of the high spec and high end apartments on such sites has not been effective, residents raise concerns about a critical lack of affordable housing, which luxury apartments do little to ease. The town has shed dozens of outdated Edwardian hotels as consumer choice switches to high spec self catering and second home ownership. The developers Stephens and Stephens based in Truro have already developed the Hotel site next door as Cliff Edge One with some apartments priced around one million pounds, This new project of 36 apartments is named Cliff Edge two. Dust suppressing water cannon is employed along with promises to clean adjacent residents windows of dirt and dust. Within a stones throw the Iconic Bristol hotel is slated for demolition with yet another hotel currently for sale. The Newquay townscape is transitioning at some speed, with not all happy of the direction.
