This is the shocking moment powerful floodwaters surge through the front door into a family's home despite their efforts to block it off with heavy furniture.

The incident came after heavy rainfall struck the city of Zhanjiang, in China's southern Guangdong Province, on October 20.

Rising water levels greatly affected the city, forcing its residents to seek refuge. In the footage, one family is seen trying to prevent floodwaters from entering their home as they grab a piece of furniture and press it against the front door to keep it secure.

The CCTV video shows a man and a woman pushing against the door with a large sofa while three boys kept the windows barred with a wooden pole.

But despite how hard they tried, water eventually began seeping in through the narrow door crack. It can be seen that the place had already been flooded up to their ankles.

Then, a powerful surge forced the door wide open and water gushed in, pushing the man and the woman along with the sofa several feet back as the footage ends.

Afterward, they reportedly rushed upstairs to the second floor to avoid danger.

The severe weather reportedly continued on into the next day The water levels were still rising, and the local emergency management bureau was actively conducting rescue operations, local media reported.
