Escaped ostrich leads traffic police on frantic highway chase during morning rush hour in China
An escaped ostrich led traffic police on a frantic highway chase during morning rush hour in China.
The large bird was spotted by shocked drivers sprinting alongside cars on a viaduct in Zhengzhou City in Henan on November 6.
Officers set out to chase after the runaway animal, which was causing chaos as onlookers said it kept weaving through traffic and switching lanes.
They followed the ostrich into a tunnel, where an officer in pursuit crashed into it.
The police managed to drive the giant avian off the road, where it calmed down and became more stable.
Local zoo staff later arrived to rescue the ostrich. Authorities said they were investigating where it had come from.
Ostriches are large, flightless birds known for their impressive running abilities. Armed with powerful legs, they are the fastest-running birds and can reach speeds of up to 45-50 miles per hour for short bursts.
