Video captured the terrible sight of a home being destroyed by fire in Mount Carmel in Pennsylvania on Wednesday 8 November.

At around 11:40am, Mount Carmel Fire Department and surrounding units were alert to a reported working fire at 5th & Hickory in Mount Carmel.

Police were first on scene and confirmed a working fire with everyone out of the building.

Casey McCracken sat on the sidewalk in his slippers, covered in smoke and soot, while watching firefighters extinguish a blaze that tore through his family’s home at 150 S. Hickory Street.

“My son and I were home when it happened,” homeowner Vivian McCracken said, noting that the fire started in the rear of the house on a second-floor porch while they were trying to repair an electrical issue in the home.

“It wasn’t very big when we left. We weren’t very concerned,” she said. “That’s the astonishing thing about it. It took (firefighters) a while to get here. Because of the time of the day, there just weren’t that many people.”

Command Mount Carmel Township Chief of Police Brian Hollenbush, confirmed that the fire started on the second floor at the rear of the building and spread to the interior and third floor of the residence.

During the fire, one firefighter was checked for injuries and transported as a precautionary measure due to a fall.
