Rising Tide, the environmental activist group, sustains its blockade of the Newcastle coal port beyond the expiration of police permission at 4 pm on November 26th.

The blockade was initiated on Saturday, 25.11. at 10 am, involves over a hundred individuals, spanning ages from 15 to 97, all prepared to face potential arrest.

Organizer and spokesperson Alexa Stuart conveyed the group's commitment to civil disobedience in the face of government inaction on climate change. Stuart emphasized that their actions would persist until the Albanese government rejects new coal projects and agrees to impose a 75% tax on coal export profits to fund a transition away from fossil fuels.

Among the participants is 97-year-old Reverend Alan Stuart, a Uniting Church minister and Alexa's grandfather, who states that his involvement is driven by a duty to future generations and a desire to combat the escalating climate crisis. The blockade draws support from diverse individuals, including 17-year-old school striker Anjali Beams from Adelaide and coal miner Grant Howard from Queensland, highlighting a broad coalition pushing for environmental responsibility and a just transition.
