Workers ensure railway safety amid cold wave in northeastern China
China renewed a yellow alert for a cold wave on Tuesday and issued a yellow alert for blizzards on Wednesday.
It forecasts temperature drops in most parts of the country from Tuesday to Saturday.
To ensure railway safety, railway workers in NE China's Shenyang are dispatched to conduct safety checks.
Liu Shuang, a railway mechanic said: "The drainage pipes (on the railway bridge) are easily affected by the temperature. The joint parts are often challenged by water leaks which may lead to erosion of the concrete parts. That will affect the strength of the bridge."
Jiang Zhongmingfu, another railway mechanic: "Every detail matters in terms of safety. All of our efforts are worthy to secure the safety of the railway and the passengers."
To ensure worker safety, special down jackets made for extreme weather, cotton-padded pants and shoes are handed out to workers.
