"I'm Xinhua correspondent Zhang Xiaoyu, now in Nanao city, central Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa.
This is a commercial street with a long history. We can see many houses were damaged here. Some even collapsed. We can see the rubbles on the ground. Some locals say many residents have sought shelter in the local communication center."
A series of strong earthquakes, with a major one of preliminary 7.6 magnitude, occurred on Monday in Ishikawa prefecture of Japan.
The death toll has risen to 64 in Ishikawa as of Wednesday noon.
Injuries are reported in the prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata, Fukui, Toyama, and Gifu.
The Japan Meteorological Agency also warned that strong aftershocks may occur in the week, especially over the next two to three days.
Since Monday, Japan has been hit by at least 155 quakes.
