STORYLINE:
Swiss tech giant ABB opened an electrification innovation week in the eastern Chinese city of Xiamen on Tuesday.
Over the week, ABB will debut its revolutionized direct current solid-state circuit breaker and more than 20 new products to empower the energy transition across key sectors.
Morten Wierod, President of ABB Electrification, said China's "dual carbon" goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 has created a "strong future" for ABB.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MORTEN WIEROD, President of ABB Electrification
"I think we share the ambition of carbon reductions with China and also ABB technology can help there. So we will see how we use our ABB technology, and also digital solutions, so we can reduce emissions and get a more sustainable future. China is our second largest market in ABB, so it's very important for us. There are a lot of new opportunities, for instance, with the building of data centers, the huge investments in renewable energies, in battery energy storage systems, in hydrogen. So all these new opportunities are where we can help with technology, and we believe there that we will have a strong future, also here in China."
Wierod also said ABB will continue its pace of investing in China in the coming years.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MORTEN WIEROD, President of ABB Electrification
"We will, as ABB, continue to invest a lot in China, not just in people, but also in new equipment, new labs, and the new advanced automation systems that we can use in our manufacturing plants, so we can support the market even better. We also are confident that we will see growth in the coming years in China. So ABB has been here for many years, but we are also here to stay in the future."
ABB, the Swiss power and automation group, has a full range of business activities in China, including R&D, manufacturing, sales, and services, with 15,000 employees in 30 companies based in more than 130 cities.
