A cultural event was held at the China Cultural Center in Myanmar's Yangon on Sunday to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival.

The event was organized by the Embassy of China in Myanmar. The China Cultural Center in Yangon was adorned with red lanterns, couplets and various styles of Chinese calligraphy.

Speaking at the event, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein said that Myanmar and China have a long history of bilateral friendship, and the cultures of the two countries are intertwined as the two countries share a long border.

He also extended wishes for happiness and peace to Chinese people residing in Myanmar, as well as to Chinese citizens in China and around the world on this New Year occasion.

Chen Hai, Chinese ambassador to Myanmar, said that the Chinese nation is the descendant of the dragon, and this year, the mascot of the "Happy Chinese New Year" event is Auspicious Dragon, which conveys the best wishes for peace, joy and good luck in Chinese culture.

He added that China and Myanmar, linked by mountains and rivers, share a profound Phaukphaw (fraternal) friendship. He also invited Myanmar people to visit China to explore Chinese culture, landscapes, and socio-economic development, deepening understanding about China.

The event, which featured a Spring Festival bazaar, Myanmar traditional dance performances, dragon and lion dance performances, Wushu performances and cultural booths among other activities, attracted over 200 people.
