In the Redwood National and State Parks' 40-mile protected coastline, California Sea Lions have found a new home, filling the air with their barks and naps. This marine protected area serves as a haven for these pinnipeds, whose natural habitats range from southern Alaska to central Mexico. The coastal region boasts sandy and rocky beaches, perfect for the sea lions to sunbathe and rest. Apart from these spots, the sea lions often visit local landmarks such as marinas, jetties, piers, buoys, platforms, and wharves.

The sea lions feed on various fish and squid species, keeping an ever-watchful eye on predators such as Orcas and Great White Sharks which prey on them. While not as enjoyable as napping in the sunshine, staying attentive to their surroundings is crucial for their survival.

Tourists visiting the park can get lucky and see these majestic creatures doing what they do best at the Crescent City harbor. A video captured a herd or raft of sea lions napping and loudly vocalizing, showcasing the vibrant marine life that calls this region home.
