A year after the earthquake that devastated the southeast of the country, killing more than 53,000 people, many of those affected are still shocked by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake, described by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the "disaster of the century".
That night, 53,537 people in Turkey, according to the latest official figures released on Friday, were trapped in a matter of seconds, while sleeping, under piles of cement. With 6,000 dead in neighbouring Syria, the official death toll rose to nearly 60,000 and more than 100,000 injured.
