A recent report from monitoring agencies has indicated heightened activity at the Popocatepetl volcano in Mexico. According to the latest findings, 68 exhalations accompanied by water vapor, volcanic gases, and ash have been detected, along with 629 minutes of high-frequency, low-amplitude tremor.

Images captured show a continuous emission of volcanic gases and ash, dispersing towards the north-northeast. This activity has prompted authorities to raise the Popocatepetl Volcanic Alert Traffic Light to Yellow Phase 2.

The scenarios planned for this phase include the possibility of some explosions of smaller to moderate size, tremors of variable amplitude, light to moderate ash rains in surrounding towns and cities, ejection of incandescent fragments within the 12-kilometer exclusion radius, and the potential for lahars to come down the ravines due to ash accumulation and expected rains in the area.

While the report reassures that pyroclastic flows are not currently expected to reach populated areas, residents in the vicinity are urged to remain vigilant and follow any updates issued by authorities.

In addition, a video recorded on February 10 shows a significant amount of smoke emanating from the volcano, providing further visual evidence of its increased activity.
