This is the moment the Popocatepetl volcano erupted, spewing clouds of ash and gas in Mexico.

Also known as Don Goyo, the volcano has recorded 24 exhalations, raising alarms as it remains on yellow phase 2 alert, as stated by the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) on October 24.

This high-risk volcano is under constant surveillance due to its potential hazards.

Authorities are urging the public to stay clear of the volcano, particularly the crater, due to the risk of falling ballistic fragments.

Popocatepetl, which means 'smoking mountain' in the Aztec Nahuatl language, is the second-highest peak in Mexico and one of the country's most famous volcanoes, known for its frequent and violent eruptions.
