An officer from Okaloosa County, Florida, has resigned after footage of him mistaking a falling acorn for gunfire went viral.

In the newly released bodycam footage, Okaloosa County deputy Jesse Hernandez shoots at his patrol vehicle with a handcuffed suspect inside. Hernandez told an inquiry he believed the sound of an acorn falling on his car was a gunshot, and so responded by opening fire.

The suspect inside was not injured and no weapon was located.

The investigation concluded Hernandez's use of force was "not objectively reasonable".

He resigned from the force shortly after the acorn incident.
