A woman was given a shock when she spotted a giant rat lying down right outside the door leading to her garden.

Wendy King was in her kitchen when spotted the huge rodent just outside her glass door on February 18.

A video shows the rat lying down docilely still as she can be heard saying "Oh my god! Look at this outside the house. It's a rat!"

Wendy, a retired hospitality worker from Coalville in Leicestershire, said: "I was surprised and shocked to see it."

"It's fur was very fluffy, like a rabbit, not like others I have seen."

"I don’t dislike rats but I’d rather not have one outside my door!"

"I measured the area and it was at least 32cm long!"

Wendy believes that due to its slow and docile nature, it may have possibly been poisoned before arriving in her garden.

She said: "This was the first time I’d seen one in my garden, so after filming I went outside to see it closer."

"It slowly turned and went down the side of my house and because it moved so slowly, that's why I think it may have been poisoned."

"It disappeared after that and I've not seen it since."
