Watch moment have-a-go hero chases off would-be motorcycle thieves barefoot
This is the moment a have-a-go hero chases off a group of would-be motorcycle thieves from his home - while barefoot.
The 43-year-old watch repair worker, who wished to remain anonymous, heard the yobs snooping around his driveway in Bromley, Greater London, just over a month ago.
CCTV footage from just after 1am shows the motorbike enthusiast launching into action to chase after the thugs barefoot as they flee.
The resident of over a year, who is originally from Brazil, says he believes the group to be young lads ranging from 15-20 years old who he claims are "cowards."
He said: "Thieves and criminals feel entitled to do whatever they want because they know we won't do anything about it."
"I know they are youngsters, the oldest is 20 years old. I know that they are cowards."
"When they see somebody with a little bit more balls, they tend to put their tail between their legs and run off."
The homeowner says that this is not the first time his driveway has been targeted, as he moved to Bromley from Forest Hill a year ago after having his motorbike stolen five times in a row.
The biker has previously owned luxury bikes such as a Honda Fireblade, which he says cost him £15,000, but he claims that it was stolen and damaged.
Now, he says that he only buys cheap motorbikes at around £500, but this still hasn't deterred thieves.
He added: "I have been having problems with motorbike thieves for probably about ten years. "
"I have always had nice motorbikes, Harley Davidsons, you name it. But since 2017 I decided not to bother with it anymore because I keep getting robbed."
"When you have good things in this country, thieves target you. I am about to leave this country because of crime."
The motorcycle lover, who has been riding in the UK since 2003, says he called the police after the recent incident and they arrived very quickly, but that they didn't manage to catch anyone.
The resident claims it has been hard to prove who did it even with evidence as the group are wearing balaclavas and motorcycle helmets.
Now, he says that his mental health has suffered and he is living in constant fear that they will come back to target him again.
He added: "It is a very small house so any noise in front of it alerts me. I am paranoid now. "
"I actually had to move houses because of bike thieves. My hearing is very sharp at night. I don't sleep anymore. They will keep coming because I have hurt their pride. "
"I have high blood pressure and every time I hear something my heart goes through the roof. It is a horrible feeling."
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "On Saturday, 20 September at around 04:50hrs the Met received a report of an attempted robbery of a moped from the driveway of property in North Road, Bromley. "
"Emergency response officers attended the scene and the incident was further investigated by detectives from local borough command. "
"At this time there are no further lines of enquiry to pursue, so this case was closed pending more evidence coming to light in future."
