Alligator During Training Exercise in Hall County, GA, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 5 March 2024.
[Note: no sound]
On the 5th of Marsh, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) K9 teams were conducting a training exercise around a pond off Allen Creek Road when they encountered an unexpected visitor – a large alligator.
The deputy who was laying a track for the K9 team heard a hissing sound and spotted the alligator with its mouth open. Estimated to be between 7 and 9 feet in length, the alligator charged at the deputy. Thankfully, the quick-thinking deputy was able to run up an embankment and escape the animal unharmed.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was informed of the encounter, and HCSO is now urging citizens to be cautious around the water in the area, including the stream that feeds the pond. In response to the sighting, warning signs will be installed to alert the public about potential dangers from alligators, snakes, and other wildlife in the vicinity.
The drone photo, captured by HCSO 1st Lt. Dan Franklin on March 6, shows the alligator in the pond after the deputy’s close call. While such encounters are rare, HCSO is reminding residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions when near bodies of water where wildlife may be present.
