A man was discovered deceased by firefighters while extinguishing flames inside a home overnight.

The fatal house fire occurred Wednesday morning shortly after 3 a.m. in the 10800 block of North Noble Avenue in Mission Hills.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an initial report of smoke in the area. Upon arrival, firefighters located a 1,856 square foot, one-story home on fire that had been converted to a residential duplex under one roof, according to the LAFD.

In extinguishing the intense flames, firefighters discovered the remains of one adult male, reported the LAFD. The three other occupants of the building were able to escape unharmed. No other injuries were reported.

Knockdown was achieved in approximately 22 minutes with 32 firefighters on the scene, reported the fire department. The cause of the fire is under active investigation with arson investigators called to the scene.

The LAFD mentioned that the 72-year-old structure was not equipped with smoke alarms as required by law.
