Monica Mudonhi is a rabbit farmer in Ruwa, about 22 km to the southeast of Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MONICA MUDONHI, Rabbit farmer
"It's a habit now, and wherever you are, you are thinking of your rabbits, especially when you know that they are about to kindle, you are not settled wherever you are."

Mudonhi is among the beneficiaries of a Chinese-funded rabbit farmer training program by the Zimbabwe Commercial Rabbit Breeders Association (ZICORBA).

The program aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools needed for successful rabbit farming.

More than 200 people attended the inaugural training program in Harare at the end of February.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MONICA MUDONHI, Rabbit farmer
"I think it's a good program which is being run around Zimbabwe. I wish people could be able to attend, even those without rabbits. It would encourage them."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): REGIS NYAMAKANGA, ZICORBA President
"We are aiming as an association to ensure that about 1.5 million farmers are ushered into rabbit production in Zimbabwe."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): PAIDA NYAMAKANGA, Executive director, Raymeg Rabbit Producers
"We are really grateful for the training that was conducted by ZICORBA with aid from the China Aid through the Chinese embassy. We have taken some measures to tap into the Chinese market, firstly by doing a bit of research on what their needs are, and checking on what we need to do in order to be prepared for that market as well."
