Hindu devotees show their extreme devotion by piercing skin with metal hooks and hanging from crane
Hundreds of Hindu devotees displayed their devotion on the day of Panguni Uthiram by piercing their skins with metal hooks and hanging from cranes in the southern Indian city of kalapet in Pondicherry.
Hindu devotees also pierce their bodies with numerous needles and spikes as marks of penance for their wishes to be fulfilled. Devotees swing from heavy vehicles, hang from cranes and pull buses and containers from their hooked bodies.
The Panguni Uthiram festival, which means “Full Moon of Divine Marriages", is celebrated annually during the full moon of the Tamil month of Panguni, during the month of March.
