"Hello everyone, I'm Darina. I came to China for learning Chinese. Now I'm a student of Hebei University. I like traveling around China. So today I came to Xiong'an. Established in 2017, Xiong'an New Area is more than just a city of high-tech elements. It is also a sample of green cities in China. Today, let's see the beautiful scenery here."

When people talk about China's cityscape, they usually think of skyscrapers in Beijing or Shanghai. Yet in Xiong'an, the story is totally different. Rivers, lakes, trees and grass can be seen everywhere. Blue and green spaces will account for 70 percent of the city, enabling citizens to always stay close to nature.

Since its establishment, Xiong'an New Area has been focusing on the protection and management of local environment, especially in Baiyangdian Lake, a major wetland in northern China. The government has outlawed all polluting enterprises, started ecological dredging of the water, and implemented comprehensive treatments on domestic sewage in nearby villages.

"Now, I am in Baiyangdian. It is an important ecological water system in Xiong'an New Area. It is also known as the 'pearl of North China.'"

As the environment gets better, Baiyangdian has become an important habitat for migratory birds. Walking around the lake, beautiful water birds can be seen everywhere. Up to now, the number of wild bird species in this area has increased to 279, 73 species more than seven years ago.

Reforestation is also an important part of Xiong'an's efforts to protect the environment. "Plant trees first, build the city later." This is a concept followed by Xiong'an during its construction.

In the future, people here may only need to walk 3 kilometers before they get into a forest, and three hundred meters a park. Green Xiong'an is on its way.
