A corn field in Floresville, Texas where farmers are reporting that 57% of the state's annual corn crop has been planted so far this year.

FLoresville, Texas USA-- The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) says as of March 31, 2% of the 2024 corn crop has been planted in the top 18 corn-growing states. This is above the five-year average of 1%.

According to the report, corn planting has begun in six of the 18 states:

1. Illinois: 1% planted

2. Kansas: 2% planted

3. Kentucky: 2% planted

4. Missouri: 2% planted

5. Tennessee: 2% planted

6. Texas: 57% planted

This time last year, only five states had started planting corn. Kansas and Kentucky were at 1% and 2% progress, respectively. North Carolina was 1% planted by this time last year. Texas was 56% planted. Tennessee’s planting progress was at 1%. Each year, Texas plants about 2 million acres of corn resulting in an average of more than 285 million bushels annually.
