Strong tremors were felt in China's Fujian Province after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on April 3.

Kindergartens and schools in the city of Xiamen were evacuated after two aftershocks of 6.0 and 5.9 magnitudes were felt.

Storyline:
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake, occurring in the sea area near Hualien of China's Taiwan region at 07:58 on Wednesday, can be felt strongly in east China's Fujian Province.

The epicenter was monitored at 23.81 degrees north latitude and 121.74 degrees east longitude. The quake was followed within 40 minutes by two aftershocks of 6.0-magnitude and 5.9-magnitude, said a report issued by the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The earthquake also triggered the National Early Warning Center to issue tsunami alerts twice. At present, the tsunami alert has been adjusted from the top level to the second or an orange alert level.

The earthquake can be strongly felt in Xiamen, Fuzhou, Quanzhou and other cities in Fujian, forcing students in kindergartens, primary and middle schools in Xiamen to evacuate to safer places.

The China Railway Nanchang Group started the level-1 emergency response, and some railway line services in Fujian and east China's Jiangxi Province were temporarily suspended.
