STORYLINE:

King Abdullah II of Jordan and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain on Wednesday stressed the urgent need for the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to implement immediate ceasefire resolutions in Gaza.

During a meeting in Jordan's Aqaba, the two leaders stressed the importance of reducing tensions in the Middle East, avoiding military escalation, and finding peaceful, just, comprehensive, and sustainable solutions to conflicts in the region, as well as coordinating efforts to combat and prevent financing of terrorism.

They stressed the importance of the upcoming Arab Summit in the Kingdom of Bahrain in light of the current circumstances in the region.

During the meeting, they stressed the necessity of fraternal solidarity and joint Arab action.

The two leaders emphasized the need to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid by all possible means, and prevent further escalation. They expressed their rejection of ground attacks on Rafah and anything that would lead to widening of the war or displacement of Palestinians from their lands.

They reiterated the importance of respecting the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, and of halting Israeli violations of the city's holy sites.

King Hamad praised Jordan's active role in peace efforts and its support for Arab and Islamic issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.

Both leaders warned against extremist settlers' hostile actions towards Palestinians in the West Bank, and condemned the construction of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories as a violation of international law.
