Buenos Aires, Argentina - Aril, 18.

While talks are progressing in the Chamber of Deputies to get the votes to approve the new base law, in the Senate they reached an agreement and approved an increase in salaries. With the increase, a senator's salary would go from $1.7 million to $4 million.
The initiative was signed by legislators from Juntos por el Cambio, the UCR and the federal bloc. As could be seen in the session, neither the senators of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) nor the PRO voted in favour of the measure, although they did not question it either, so it was ratified.
The draft resolution in question establishes that as of May, senators will receive a total of 13 annual allowances. Each allowance will be equivalent to 2,500 modules plus an additional 1,000 modules for representation expenses and 500 modules for uprooting.
The decision was made in the shadows and, without a word, was put into effect on Thursday. The curious thing is that the resolution was approved at the end of the session and in just one minute: the salary increase, promoted by opposition legislators, was voted by a show of hands by more than three quarters of the chamber.
Federal Change senator Juan Carlos Romero, one of the bill's promoters, asked to speak at 13:43. Without explicitly mentioning the increase in allowances, Romero asked for an informal vote. He said, "President, the secretariat has a draft resolution signed by several senators, for which it has been put under consideration".
"It is therefore appropriate to vote on the authorisation on a show of hands of Bill 615/24 authored by several senators on the benches, requiring two thirds of the votes," replied Villarruel, who also failed to mention the bill to be voted on.
