STORYLINE:

Over the weekend, an international team of experts carried out field investigations at the old tea forests of Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er, southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The experts commended the conservation efforts dedicated to the tea forest cultural landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): JIANG BO, Professor of Shandong University, Vice president of ICOMOS (Int'l Council on Monuments and Sites) China
"While preserving their original conditions, the residential buildings have also undergone extensive repairs. These repairs, guided by expert teams, have effectively preserved the original landscape of Jingmai Mountain."

The experts also engaged in discussions on the conservation and sustainable development of cultural landscape heritages in Asia.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): TERESA PATRICIO, President of ICOMOS
"The big risks are not visible. So they are very slow with a cumulative effect. And little by little, they can degrade. And the day we understand that something is wrong, sometimes can be too late. So we need to be very attentive to these slow and cumulative effects. And we need to understand very well what are the real vulnerability.
It was exactly one of the recommendations we did. It was to organize an international conference to discuss all these matters that are very important for all of us. So I'm very happy that this conference was organized."
