USA: LASD Deputy Shoots Armed Suspect in La Puente, LA
05/03/2024 01:19 am (GMT-0700) | LA PUENTE, Calif.
LASD deputies and the LACoFD responded to a family disturbance call at 645 Willow Ave. in the city of La Puente. Once sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, they located one suspect armed, and refusing to listen to sheriff's deputies commands to drop the weapon. A deputy-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was shot. Unknown at this time how many deputies fired their weapons. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. Family members were at the house at the time of the shooting and appeared to be uncooperative with deputies.
In an update from the LASD Sheriff's Information Bureau (SIB), the suspect was outside the residence arguing with family members as deputies arrived.
"As deputies attempted to detain the suspect, he armed himself with a metal paint roller which he used as a weapon," stated the SIB.
The armed suspect refused to comply with repeated demands by deputies to drop the weapon. Pepper spray was deployed with no effect on the suspect. As the suspect raised the weapon toward a deputy, the deputy then shot the suspect.
The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, 40-45 years of age, according to the SIB.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene, treated the suspect and then transported him to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
The deputy was treated for his injuries at the scene. No one else was reported injured during the incident, according to the SIB.
Multiple investigations are underway regarding this incident per LASD protocol when a deputy-involved shooting occurs.
