An American fugitive allegedly wanted for human trafficking was arrested in Thailand.

Selva Delano Mudaliar, 37, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by a court in Oregon, U.S., over various crimes including abduction, coercion, sex trafficking, and violence.

However, he allegedly fled to Thailand while out on parole.

The Royal Thai Police, acting on a request from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, tracked down Selva's whereabouts to a condominium in Bangkok, where he was arrested on May 3.

Police Colonel Korkiet Wuthichumnong, superintendent of Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau, said in a May 6 press conference that Selva had arrived in Thailand in February, and kept changing addresses to avoid arrest.

He said: 'It is believed that Mr Selva knew that he was wanted by the police. He stayed in each place for only one to four days, often visiting entertainment venues in the Bangkok area, and often interacting with Thai and foreign women. Many times, he took women home with him.'

He added that police expedited the search because they were concerned Selva would commit the same crimes in Thailand.

Selva was wanted on 11 counts that included 'assault in the second degree, strangulation, intentional bodily harm, kidnapping in the first degree (four counts), coercion, unlawful use of a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.'

The Oregon court convicted him of 'sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion' which carries a minimum punishment of 15 years in prison, and 'transportation for illegal sexual activity', with a maximum sentence of 10 years.

Selva is now facing extradition to the U.S.
