STORYLINE:
Turkish authorities have detained 192 irregular migrants and 40 alleged human traffickers in operations across 14 provinces, a cabinet minister said on Monday.
"We will never give an opportunity to human traffickers who try to turn our country into a destination and transit route for irregular migration," Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on social media platform X. "Our determined operations in every region of our country will continue uninterruptedly."
Yerlikaya said that the operations resulted in the seizure of 14 vehicles and a large amount of foreign currency.
The arrested irregular migrants have been transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration Management, where deportation procedures have been initiated.
The Turkish government has taken significant steps to combat irregular migration in recent years, intensifying anti-smuggler security operations and tightening border security measures.
