This is the hilarious moment an elephant hurled sand at noisy neighbour parrots at a zoo in China.

The young jumbo was awakened from its afternoon nap when the noise in the parrot park disturbed him at Hangzhou Safari Park in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, on May 5.

Footage captured by Ms Ding shows the animal throwing sand with its trunk over the wall of the birds' enclosure.

The birds were showered with dust from the continuous blows of the irritated mammal.

Ms Ding said: 'I couldn't stop laughing because I could feel its irritation from being woken up.'

Despite attempts by zookeepers to divert its attention, it continued its actions.

This prompted the area next door to be sprinkled with dirt. Fortunately, the parrots did not sustain any injuries.
