STORYLINE:

Chinese telecommunication company Huawei launched an initiative on Monday to hire fresh graduates from Kenyan universities.

Fang Zheng, human resource manager for Huawei Kenya, said that the Huawei management trainee program targets the best graduates with four-month-long paid internships that could lead to permanent jobs.

"We developed the program with the aim of exposing Kenyan students to advanced technical knowledge and career prospects in the technology sector," Zheng said in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

Paul Mungai, Director of Education at the Kenyan Ministry of Education's State Department for Higher Education, said that the Huawei management trainee program has emerged as a key public and private cooperation that has created employment opportunities for Kenyan graduates.
