New York, NY, USA - May 16, 2024

A harrowing incident unfolded in New York City as NYPD officers intervened to save a defenseless puppy from a brutal case of abuse. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the one-year-old poodle named Rocket endured severe injuries inflicted by his owner.

Responding to a distress call on Thursday, May 16, officers from the 33rd precinct encountered a heart-wrenching scene of cruelty, with Rocket displaying signs of traumatic brain injury and shock. Bloodied and in critical condition, the tiny canine's life hung in the balance as officers swiftly intervened to secure his safety.

Video footage shared on Twitter captured the poignant moment as officers comforted Rocket, visibly moved by his plight. Despite the severity of his injuries, Rocket's resilience shone through as he was transferred to the care of the Animal Medical Center (AMC), a veterinary partner of the ASPCA.

Upon arrival at the AMC, Rocket underwent urgent medical treatment, including intravenous fluids to address his injuries and emergency procedures to stabilize his condition. The extent of his trauma became evident as veterinarians diagnosed him with a fractured femur and internal bleeding, requiring immediate intervention to save his life.

While Rocket faces a challenging road to recovery, the collaborative efforts of the NYPD, AMC, and ASPCA have ensured that he receives the care and support needed to heal from his ordeal. Gratitude was expressed to the NYPD officers whose swift actions played a crucial role in rescuing Rocket from further harm.

Meanwhile, Rocket's owner, identified as 25-year-old Cleopatra Morgan, faces a litany of charges, including aggravated cruelty to an animal and torture injury to an animal. Additional charges of criminal possession of a weapon and false impersonation underscore the severity of the situation and the legal repercussions awaiting the perpetrator.
