Los Angeles, CA, USA - April 26, 2024

In an alarming turn of events, a confrontation between law enforcement and a suspect escalated into a dramatic arrest, involving a police officer using his vehicle to push a cyclist off his bike in Los Angeles.

On April 26, 2024, authorities responded to a shooting incident in the 100 Block of East Avenue 36. The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old John Lopez, allegedly shot a family member following a verbal altercation and fled the scene before officers arrived.

A swift response led to the location of Lopez, who was spotted riding a bicycle southbound on the 5 Freeway by an Air Unit. Police units from Northeast and Hollenbeck initiated a pursuit, eventually leading to Lopez exiting the freeway via the Mission Road off-ramp.

As Lopez continued to evade capture, a Hollenbeck officer resorted to using his police vehicle to strike Lopez, causing him to lose control of the bicycle and fall onto the roadway. Despite complaints of knee pain, Lopez was taken into custody without further resistance.

Subsequent investigations led to Lopez's booking for Attempted Murder under 664/187(a) PC, with a firearm recovered at the scene. Fortunately, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
