STORYLINE:

STANDUP (English): ALI JASWAL, Xinhua reporter"Right now, I am standing on Sukkur-Multan Motorway, an important transportation project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. Where I am standing right now is a very special place as it has a weigh-in-motion mechanism over here. This patch automatically calculates the weight of the vehicle once it passes through it. This technology has been used for the first time in Pakistan."

SOUNDBITE (English): KASHIF NAWAZ, Project director of the Sukkur-Multan Motorway
"This point is a dynamic scale. We call it weigh-in-motion. The vehicle's plate number will be checked at this point. And you see that 200 meters away, there is a VMS (Vehicle Monitoring System). These signals are automatically recorded in our intelligent transportation system. From that traffic operation center, the message will go to the motorway police's patrolling officer. The patrolling officer will immediately stop the vehicle and ask him to go out from the motorway and he can also find that vehicle. (The use of) weigh-in-motion technology on the motorway and the main carriageway is the first time."
Stretching 392 km, the Sukkur-Multan Motorway is the largest transportation infrastructure project under CPEC.

It is part of Pakistan's Peshawar-Karachi Motorway and was designed for speeds of up to 120 km/h.
