During China's Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the China-Laos Railway saw a significant rise in international passengers.

The China-Laos Railway had handled over 1,628 cross-border passenger trips during the three-day holiday, up 28.29 percent year on year, according to the Mohan checkpoint on China's border with Laos.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): Passenger
"We flew to Xishuangbanna from Guangzhou to experience the China-Laos Railway. We can go straight to Luang Prabang from Xishuangbanna station, which is very convenient."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LI SHILING, Tour guide in Yunnan
"Because the train trip takes less time and the distance is shorter (compared to road trip), the number of tourists to Laos or China is increasing. Now there are many cross-border tourists, so the business of our company increased by more than 20 percent during the Dragon Boat Festival."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LI JUN, Railway police officer, Mohan checkpoint, Yunnan
"In response to the needs of tourists going abroad for short trips, we have optimized the service mode, strengthened communication with qualified travel agencies, actively introduced measures such as green channel for the elderly, online pre-registration for tour groups, ensuring smooth and convenient customs clearance for the public."

Since the China-Laos Railway started cross-border passenger service on April 13, 2023, it has become an important way for many Chinese and foreign tourists to travel between the two countries.
