STORYLINE:
China Brand Fair 2024 kicked off in Budapest on Thursday. The three-day event featured more than 270 companies from 10 Chinese provinces and cities, showcasing a diverse range of products.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Hungarian): IMRE ATTILA NESZTLER, Hungarian buyer
"The products are of very high quality and very innovative. This is interesting for us here in Hungary, and we see potential in cooperating and ordering from China or Asia. We are seeking cooperation with Chinese partners and are looking to collaborate with them here in Hungary. The variety is high quality and very interesting, ranging from clothing products to food products, as well as technical items, and of course, there are also construction products. We have been looking at Chinese products for a long time. It may be possible to manufacture at higher quality and lower cost in China than here in Hungary or Europe."
Gergely Fabian, state secretary for industrial policy and technology at Hungary's Ministry for National Economy, spoke about the longstanding economic ties between Hungary and China. "China's investment in Hungary has propelled innovation and growth across various sectors," he said.
Fabian also drew attention to the strategic importance of Hungary as a gateway to the European Union, providing access to 450 million consumers.
Chen Yiwei, minister counselor from the Chinese Embassy to Hungary, said this year's China Brand Fair will inject new momentum into Sino-Hungarian economic and trade cooperation.
Antal Musz, a 44-year-old Hungarian entrepreneur, attended the fair primarily to find business partners. He added that he is interested in finding opportunities in manufacturing within the automotive and electronics sectors.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Hungarian): ANTAL MUSZ, Hungarian entrepreneur
"In terms of price, they are unbeatable, which is necessary for large industries to manufacture. I think such an economy has a great future. I came to the exhibitions for numerous products, and also because my primary goal at the meeting, at the exhibition, is to find partners and provide cooperation opportunities for joint Hungarian and Chinese companies. So, that is the primary target."
Erno Peto, president of the Hungarian-Chinese Chamber of Economy, highlighted the presence of EU-certified intelligent electric vehicle (EV) chargers and smaller electronic cars at the fair.
SOUNDBITE 3 (Hungarian): ERNO PETO, President of Hungarian-Chinese Chamber of Economy
"Many high-quality products appeared for the first time at this exhibition. There is an intelligent EV charger next to us for example. There are some smaller electric cars from smaller brands, not the big names, but they all have the EU qualifications. I have seen a company offering household devices that combine solar panels and heating at the same time. This is the seventh time the China Brand Fair has been organized. Chinese products have gone through a gigantic development both in their quality, quantity, and display. This exhibition also went through great development. This has become the biggest exhibition in Central Europe with the most extensive selection of Chinese brands."
